The Beaches of Catazajá

The beaches or lagoons of Catazajá are located in the municipality of Catazajá, in the Gulf Coastal Plain, a few kilometers from the city of Palenque, being one of the most traditional fishing sites in the state of Chiapas.
Catazajá is a Mayan word that comes from Kaa: valley, tasal: lying and já: water, so it means "valley covered with water".
These bodies of water attract a great variety of tourists who can admire the natural landscape, composed of a great variety of flora and fauna, through boat tours that will allow them to feel in intimate contact with nature. Among the fauna that can be seen are the iguanas, flat turtles, crocodiles, turtles, herons, vultures, armadillos, wild boars, monkeys, otters, among others, while in terms of vegetation abound amate, mahogany, ceiba and rubber.
Once the boat tour is over, visitors can enjoy the local gastronomy, based on fish and seafood, in the different restaurants found in the community.
